Anyone 6 years old or older and 75 kilograms or less was allowed to ride one of the ostriches.  I know I fit the first criterion, but waasn't sure of the second. I thought I might watch what happened as others attempted. 

Nicolas and Cornelius would round up a male (the strongest) and bring them to the staging area.  Next they would put on the lovely white cap that you see here. It kept the ostrich docile.
