I am a teacher and researcher in the Engineering Department at Calvin University. I have additional affiliations at
- The University of Leeds, where I am a Virtual Visiting Research Fellow in the School of Earth and Environment, Faculty of Environment; and
- Stellenbosch University, where I am an Extraordinary Professor in the School for Public Leadership, Faculty of Economic and Management Science.
I recently won the Calvin University Presidential Award for Exemplary Teaching. My research question is
What are the relationships among energy, materials, and the economy when viewed through the lens of sustainability?
My research interests include:
- societal exergy analysis,
- the rebound effect, and
- energy transitions.
